Todd R. Klein
District 3 Councilman

Councilman Todd R. Klein represents District 3, the "Heart of Lubbock," on the Lubbock City Council. He was elected on June 9, 2007 and sworn in on June 14, 2007.

Todd is a progressive leader with a history of public service in Lubbock and the communities in which he has resided. A Lubbock native, Todd is a graduate of Lubbock High and Texas Tech University. He is a grant consultant and radio show host. Todd is married to Manda Klein and they are the proud parents of John Francis, who joined their family in January 2007.

Community Service

Upon his return to Lubbock, Todd has been involved with the Humane Society of West Texas and was recently elected President of the Board of Directors. He was appointed to the Animal Services Advisory Committee and has been an advocate for building a state of the art animal shelter. Todd's previous commitments to Lubbock included: co-chairing the Heart of Lubbock Neighborhood Association, serving on the Empowerment Zone Steering Committee and volunteering for the Lubbock Rape Crisis Center and Contact Lubbock Hotline.

Texas Tech Alumnus

As a proud Red Raider, Todd is a member of the Texas Tech Alumni Association, the Red Raider Club and the Chancellor's Council. Avid fans, Todd and Manda are season ticket holders for Red Raider football and basketball games. Todd has been a strong advocate for Texas Tech and has long sought the expansion of student enrollment at Tech to at least 40,000 -- not only as a means of enhancing the Lubbock campus to state designated Flagship status, but also as a means of exponentially increasing the economic growth and development in Lubbock. He also supports the addition of a school of veterinary medicine to Texas Tech. Todd envisions a Lubbock where Tech graduates can find good paying jobs and remain in Lubbock, and a city powered by a strong 21st Century economy that lures people from all across the state and beyond to locate in our fine city.

Causes Close to the Heart

In 2003 Todd completed the Marine Corp Marathon in conjunction with the AIDS Marathon Training program and raised over $3000 for AIDS research. In addition, he cycled across the state of Iowa as part of his training. Last year Todd participated in the Ride of Silence in honor of a close friend and others who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways. Todd has volunteered countless hours in Head Start classrooms. His commitment to children, animals and those less fortunate is unmatched. Todd and Manda feel strongly about the Special Olympics, the March of Dimes, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Public Radio (KOHM) and are regular contributors to these causes.

Faith and Public Service

Todd believes that his civic involvement is an extension of his faith and a noble obligation to serve others. Todd and Manda attend church regularly and are looking forward to the baptism of their son, John. Inspired by his faith, Todd paints, and his subjects are primarily religious icons. His work was exhibited as part of the Lubbock Art Alliance's Star, Cross, Angel series in 2006.
